How to draw: Transportation

I've been looking for some fun workbox activities to include lately and along with the K'Nex instructions I'm putting together, I wanted to include some more drawing lessons. Bubby has a book that came in a kindergarten prep kit and has step by step drawing instructions to trace, plus an illustrated page to practice on. I don't really like the way the book is set up because it's hard to tear out and include single drawing lessons  in his workbox since the pages are back to back. He does seem to enjoy the lessons though and has been drawing many of the items during free time.

There are so many "how to" drawing sites that it was hard to narrow down what I was looking for. I did find some fun transportation instructions that I will be including in his workboxes during our transportation unit. I also found some general sites that I will post about soon.

Car Drawing

These two were too good to pass up even though I would have preferred to use something that is printable. When you click on the item you want to draw, a small window appears with one "line" to draw. Once you're ready to move on you click on the next step and it adds a line. Their drawings are relatively simple and should be easy for a preschool/kindergarten student to follow. Just make sure they have some basic computer skills so they can maneuver through the instruction windows.

Printable simple line drawings

I love these simple line drawings. I'm going to print these out, laminate them, and put together a small keyring book to include in workboxes. These would also be fun to include in an art box (similar to the space box I put together) so your students can refer to them if they want to include them in drawings.

Space book list

I'm a little behind but...better late then never....right!?
Anyways, we started on our transportation themed activites yesterday so I figured I better finish my posts on our Space Unit. Here's a final book list. Some of them are a more advanced reading level, but they were insteresting books so I want to include them. They were simply fun to look at the pictures, or discuss a couple of pages at a time.
These are all book I found at our local library, I've included Amazon links for all of them, just click on the book cover.

KNex

My boys recently discovered KNex when I reorganized their room. We've left them down and available for anytime and for the most part it's work out well. The one downside is that they only want to make three piece "guns" which they then leave laying all over the house. I thought it would be fun to include some KNex activites in Bubby's work boxes every couple of days. I started looking around online for instructions and I'm a little disappointed. If you want to make six foot tall roller coasters or machine guns, you'll find plenty of tutorials. A little four inch car? Forget it!

I did find this great website called K'Nex User Group. They have a catalog of 200 models for you to look at and build. Most of them are too advanced for us at this point though.

They have this great site of 20 Math Activities using K'Nex which is really cool! Most of them are fairly simple to make

They have some simpler designs for beginners to explore as well. I choose some of the shapes that I liked, copied them into Microsoft Word and printed them out in color. These will stay in page protectors and I'll include them in Bubby's workboxes. He'll be able to use the pictures like patterns and build simple items.

The K'Nex website also has free curriculum that you can print out and use for science, physics, and math lessons.

Camping SVGs

We spent this weekend at Walupt Lake with was absolutely amazing! I am having a little trouble though getting back into the swing of things. Just for fun I put together a list of some cute free camping related SVGs I found around the net. I'll post pictures of our actual trip soon. I haven't tried these myself but they all look like fun. Let me know if you have one I should add, or if you use them on one of your page designs! Just click on the picture and you'll be taken to the original download page. Enjoy!

Scissor Skills

We got this book a while back as part of a Preschool kit that came from Costco. The kit has been really fun and included a shapes/color bingo game, dry erase tracing boards, an alphabet puzzle, and a couple of other things.
I've been included sheets from the book in Bubby's workboxes and I can definitely tell an improvement in his cutting.
The book starts out with straight lines.
Then moves on to zig-zags and curved lines. I like that the pictures are bright and aren't just black lines on white paper.
This was the third or forth "lesson" and included everything needed to make several paper sandwiches. Some of the pages he's done recently included cutting out hats to glue on bears, cutting fish and gluing them in a fish pond, etc.
Today he has a matching game to cut out and play. There are several four/five piece puzzles to cut out and some other games along the way.
Unfortunately I can't find this book online, if any of you have seen it somewhere please let me know. I would like to get it again to use with Monkey.

Here's some online printables for practicing scissor skills.
